Prosecutors have filed their closing arguments regarding whether key DNA evidence can be used in the Gilgo Beach murders trial.

The Suffolk District Attorney’s Office says the method used to identify hairs found on the victims is widely accepted within relevant scientific communities.

Prosecutors say those hairs link Rex Heuermann to the murdered women.

Heuermann’s defense team argued against their inclusion as evidence during closing arguments last week.

A judge will make a final ruling on Sept. 3. Until then, a trial date cannot be set.
